The Return of Tareen? Ali Tareen Targets Major Stake in New PSL Team

Ali Tareen appears to be seriously pursuing the acquisition of one of the two new franchises joining the Pakistan Super League after the completion of his agreement with Multan Sultans. According to media reports, Ali Tareen has submitted all the required documents to participate in the bidding process for the two new PSL teams.

Just like other investors and companies from Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Australia, and Canada, Ali Tareen will also take part in the auction scheduled to be held on 8 January at the Islamabad Convention Centre. However, this time his efforts are not for Multan Sultans but for a different franchise. Moreover, the PSL draft 2026 date is 13 January, 2026.

As per PSL regulations, a current franchise owner is not allowed to bid for a new franchise. Accordingly, Ali Tareen will officially remain the owner of Multan Sultans until 31 December. After that date, he will no longer be an owner or stakeholder of any franchise, making him eligible to participate in the auction.

At present, Multan Sultans are paying an annual fee of 1.8 billion rupees, which is significantly higher than all other franchises. Meanwhile, the new franchises are expected to be sold in the range of 1.25 to 1.5 billion rupees. All bidders will have the option to select a city from Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, or Gilgit, and secure the franchise through the auction process. Each franchise will require a one-time fee of one billion rupees.
